What is Air Duct Cleaning? What is air duct cleaning (A.D.C)? A.D.C. is the abatement of airborne pathogens, dust, debris, mold, mildew, contaminants in general from the air duct system using source removal methods.

Source removal methods of A.D.C. have produced proven, positive results in recent test studies performed by the E.P.A and the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA).

Source removal methods of A.D.C. require minimum 5" S.P. negative air equipment with high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration devices, as well as powered agitation devices such as pneumatic brush systems, skipper balls, pneumatic whip systems and contact vacuums.

The process of source removal A.D.C. begins with the sectioning off of the supply and return air duct systems and then covering all registers and grills to ensure maximum negative pressure. Every register and grill is cleaned by means of air washing or wet cleaning with non toxic cleaning agents. Each heat run and return are cleaned using source removal techniques, systematically with its respective register or grill. From the very first register our HEPA negative air filtration machine is running. Once all contaminants have been driven into the main trunk lines we then proceed to clean these truncklines using the very same methods, possibly more aggressive. The final step in our cleaning process is to clean furnace plenums, cabinet, heat exchanger, air conditioning coil and blower. It is crucial to the process that the blower be pulled and cleaned completely.

Sanitizing the duct system, to effectively stop microbial growth and kill active organisms in the air transfer systems under very close scrutiny by NADCA and the E.P.A. This process is performed post A.D.C. and is done be means of fogging the entire system with one of many sanitizing or deodorizing agents.

Air duct cleaning is here to stay. Indoor air quality (I.A.Q.) issues are continuously in the headlines and are drawing more attention then ever before. Sick building syndrome and poor ventilation are problems that continue to panic building owners and superintendents.

When choosing a company to evaluate your I.A.Q. situation and needs, here is a checklist to help you:
  1. Licensed / insured mechanical contractor.
  2. N.A.D.C.A member in good standing.
  3. N.A.D.C.A certified staff, (1) minimum.
  4. Minimum three years experience with source removal.
  5. Proper Equipment ie. H.E.P.A. filtration machine, agitation devices, etc.
  6. Get References.

A.D.C. is not a cure all and should not be construed as such. However, combining ADC with proper ventilation and annual equipment maintenance will prove to be a positive experience on not only your I.A.Q. but also your energy efficiency and operating costs.
